This rare find is from the 1970s. WAVE is actually an acronym for Water Apparatus & Vehicular Engineering and is the result of Karl Pope and Tom Morey seeking out lighter options for surfboards. Pope has gone on to work on things like collapsible surfboards, and Morey is responsible for a bunch of surf-related inventions spanning the weird, the useful, and everything in between. It shouldnt come as a surprise that these two had a hand in creating one of the few modern surfboards featuring a hollow core.
This funky creation is in clean condition overall and features a pressure release valve on the nose. It has the cool 70s font w.a.v.e. HALLOW hexagon graphic on top, a yellow logo on the bottom, and includes a vintage 8 green/blue two-tone fin in solid condition, all of which give this board a ton of character. The board is a groovy avocado deep green on top and light lime foam color on the bottom – ready to jive with any Brady Bunch themed room decor!
Approximate dimensions are 69 x 18.5 x 3
There are some small chips in the top exterior finish and light scuffs on the bottom (please see pictures).
